Basic Needs Giving Partnership Award

Strengthening the Foundation: Veterans 1st of Northeast Wisconsin Receives $10,000 Technical Assistance Grant from the Basic Needs Giving Partnership

The Basic Needs Giving Partnership is proud to support Veterans 1st of Northeast Wisconsin, with a $10,000 Technical Assistance grant!

Veterans 1st is developing a first-of-its-kind Cottage Court community for veterans—21 small, affordable homes complemented by a Community Center designed to foster healing, connection, and self-sufficiency. This model pairs supportive housing with access to over critical programs and services addressing mental health, substance use, employment, and overall wellness. With local veteran suicide rates and housing insecurity on the rise, their mission could not be more urgent.

The 2025 BNGP Technical Assistance grant will fund essential technology and equipment to strengthen Veterans 1st’s operational capacity during this period of rapid growth. Funds will support the internal capacity and infrastructure of the organization, ensuring strong communication with partner agencies, documentation for intake and resident support, and streamlined coordination with community service providers. The purchase of equipment will also enhance the community center space, allowing for peer-to-peer training, therapy groups, and community gatherings.

These investments in infrastructure are more than technology purchases—they are the building blocks of an organization preparing to serve our region’s veterans with dignity and stability. Affordable, supportive housing changes lives and this investment supports Veterans 1st build the operational foundation needed to serve veterans effectively.

The Basic Needs Giving Partnership envisions thriving, equitable communities across Northeast Wisconsin, investing in solutions that address the root causes of poverty in collaboration with local partners. Technical assistance grants like this one recognize that young and growing organizations need the right tools and systems in place to sustain their impact. By supporting organizational capacity—especially in areas like housing access and mental health—BNGP helps ensure that nonprofits can meet increasing community needs with resilience and innovation.

Veterans 1st’s mission aligns deeply with BNGP’s focus on housing access, mental health, substance use recovery, and community well-being. Through this partnership, we celebrate not only a grant, but also a shared vision: a Northeast Wisconsin where every individual—especially those who have served—has access to safe housing, meaningful work, and a strong sense of belonging.
