Case Manager, Michelle

My name is Michelle, and I am originally from Rhinelander, Wisconsin. I retired from the United States Army after 20 years of active duty. Throughout my military career, I served in leadership, medical, administrative, and operational roles, gaining valuable experience in personnel management, training, problem-solving, and collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. I also completed two combat deployments to Iraq, experiences that have shaped my perspective on life, resilience, and the importance of looking out for one another.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Correctional Support Program Services and graduated magna cum laude. I am also an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a First Aid Instructor, and a Master Resilience Trainer. I am a graduate of the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI). Additionally, I am a Recovery Coach through the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR), trained to support individuals in recovery, identify resources, and encourage personal growth and self-directed recovery pathways. My education and professional experiences have reinforced my belief that everyone deserves to be heard, respected, and given an opportunity to succeed.
As a fellow veteran, I understand that life doesn't always go according to plan and that asking for help isn't always easy. Every veteran has a story, and I believe it's important to take the time to listen, understand their circumstances, and recognize their individual strengths. I value honesty, compassion, and a sense of humor, and I believe that building trust and meaningful relationships is an important part of helping others move forward.
I am also a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), which keeps me connected with fellow veterans and involved in the veteran community. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring new places, hiking, and traveling internationally. I especially enjoy experiencing new cultures, discovering different perspectives, and exploring places beyond the familiar.
As a Case Manager with Veterans 1st of NEW, my goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where veterans feel respected, heard, and empowered to move forward. I believe in helping veterans recognize their strengths, overcome barriers, and take an active role in shaping their futures. My approach is rooted in compassion, accountability, and the understanding that meaningful change takes both encouragement and personal commitment.
Serving others has been central to my life, and my dedication to the veteran community extends beyond my military service. I believe every veteran deserves the opportunity to build a stable, meaningful, and independent life. Being part of Veterans 1st of NEW allows me to continue that commitment by helping fellow veterans find their footing, regain confidence, and move forward with purpose.
